"Monkey"
SHOWS BLUE
Meet Shows Blue, affectionately known as "Monkey." This exceptional stud, owned by Jalene Sorenson, is the cornerstone of our AQHA program at Brewster Ranch. With his outstanding, old-school bloodlines, Monkey brings not only strength and durability but also the temperament that makes a truly great ranch horse.
His pedigree is a testament to classic Quarter Horse breeding, featuring names like Mr Roan Hancock, Blondys Dude, and Show Bar Bob. Blondys Dude, inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame, was known for his exceptional conformation, intelligence, and athleticism. He sired numerous champions across various disciplines, embodying the versatility and dependability that define great ranch horses. Mr Roan Hancock adds old-time Hancock grit and stamina, while Show Bar Bob contributes refinement and speed. These bloodlines form the bedrock of reliable, hardworking ranch horses.
Over the past 15+ years, Monkey has sired a remarkable number of outstanding ranch colts, many of which are now working on ranches across the United States. Some of these colts are owned by professional rodeo cowboys and NFR competitors, while others excel in a variety of disciplines. Their talent, work ethic, and versatility continue to showcase the lasting influence of Monkey’s genetics on the next generation of ranch horses.
One of my favorite stories about Monkey speaks volumes about his gentle nature. One year, when it was time to turn him out with his mares, Jalene, facing a bit of difficulty with ankle pain that day, walked out to his pen with determination. She haltered him and led him to her Suburban. With the lead rope out the window, we drove him to the mares. Once there, she calmly got out, released his halter, and gave him a few gentle pats. Monkey didn’t squeal or prance. He simply stood quietly, waited for his cue, and then trotted off to join his mares.
His calm demeanor, incredible build, and solid disposition make him an invaluable reference sire for our program. Most of our mares are his daughters or related to him in some way, and we couldn’t be prouder of the legacy he’s helping us build.
